what is cannabinoid therapeutics?

Integrative Medicine has had many names: alternative medicine, complementary medicine, complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), holistic medicine. This initially included practices traditionally not part of conventional medicine. Yet unconventional approaches are now included in mainstream medicine (mindfulness, acupuncture, massage, chiropractic, osteopathic). What is being integrated has become less distinguishable.

Another perspective views integrative medicine as the integration of mind, body, spirit, and community. Isn't this what all medicine should be? Whatever you call it, it is the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) helps us maintain the balance necessary to do so. Working with patients on optimizing their ECS utilizing several strategies is cannabinoid therapeutics.

what's the Endocannabinoid System (ECS)?

Touching every neuron in our body, the EndoCannabinoid System (ECS) produces on-demand neurotransmitters called endocannabinoids. These endocannabinoids target receptors in the nervous system that allow for our system to cool down or ramp up in response to what's happening both within and around us. The ECS helps us be peaceful and easeful, which allows us to be maximally useful. This is in part why the most well-studyied endocannabinoid is name anandamide, after the sanskrit word, ananda, meaning bliss,

Our production and utilization of cannabinoids is what allows for the system to withstand the stress of living. Unfortunately, we have a physiology designed for a world that no longer exists, so the cannabinoids we make are often not enough to keep us balanced. This makes us feel like crap in all sorts of ways: mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually So we need to do one of two things: increase production of or supplement with cannabnioids.

increasing cannabinoid production

there are many ways to increase our own production of endocannabinoids. the best example is what is referred to as the "runner's high". Thought initially to be due to the body's production of endorphins in response to the pain associated with exercise, rather it is the production of endocannabinoids, such as anandamide, in response to the excitatory state. When the system is excitatory, as in rigoros physical activity, the ECS will calm things down, which makes us feel good.

we can also increase production of endocannabinoids on the flip side in chillesville. If we meditate or practice yoga in more grounded, quiet state, we will also produce anandamide to keep us level and not fall asleep. You see... it works both ways.

At ECS wellness, we offer recommendations, teach strategies such as meditation, as well as offer services, such as acupuncture, that help maintain what we refer to as optimal endocannabinoid tone...

phytocannabinoid supplementation

Cannabis is a powerful tool that efficiently balances your Endocannabinoid System...The reason you think cannabis is, in and of itself, problematic is because people. Let's move on from that and let the healing begin...

Cannabis is a powerful medicine that balances your Endocannabinoid System (ECS). A complicated plant with over 500 compounds in it, cannabis includes phytocannabinoids (cannabinoids made from plants), like THC and CBD, as well as compounds like terpenes, the aromatic oils that give plants their odor and flavor. Now let that interact with your ECS, which contains over a hundred endocannabinoids as well as 28 different receptors and you have a sophisticated, complicated situation.

so the supplementation works. but it is much, much more complicated than that. which is where cannabis therapeutics comes in.

cannabis therapeutics

While cannabis is wildly interesting to us, it is nowhere near as interesting to us as you are. You have your own relationship with cannabis. You have your own relationship with medication. You have your own relationship with the medical field, including providers. You have your own relationship with alcohol, and with caffeine. You have your strengths, weaknesses, idiosyncrasies, quirks, frustrations, joys, sorrows. You have had many, many, many experiences that have informed your sense of who you are...

We take all of this information to determine the best possible treatment plan to help you efficiently use cannabis, by balancing your ECS, to manage the conditions that are troubling you. We try to make it so that intoxication is optional. If you have ever enjoyed a beer or a glass of wine, don’t knock it ‘til you’ve tried it. In the interim, we will try to get you to where you need to be without feeling altered or intoxicated. That means not feeling high. At least not all the time. We typically start with a product taken at bedtime so you sleep through any unwanted side effects.

So... to reiterate, we give avoiding the high the college try. You can't bat 1000 though so there's that. Cannabis therapeutics is really about one thing: using cannabis to help you feel better.
